Summerleaze Beach

For your staycation, Summerleaze is Bude’s main and most popular beach which has excellent/good water quality, and wonderful waves for those of you who enjoy surfing and bodyboarding.

Close to the town centre, the iconic sea pool, and the canal, it is a ‘pawfect’ place to blow away the cobwebs with your canine companion.

It is dog-friendly, though furry-friends must be kept on a lead from 10 am – 6 pm during July and August. At other times, however, they can run free. Sometimes, you will find lovely horses on the beach, so keep that lead handy…

A good area to exercise your dog is the river side (away from the family holiday-makers who tend to stay close to the car park facilities) so you have more space. Many dogs prefer paddling in the gentler waters of the river which leads to the sea rather than the awesome waves.

The large car park leads directly to the dunes, then down to the beach with its wide expanse of sand, making it big enough to cater for all. Parking is reasonably priced in low season.

If you plan to make a day of it or are going to the beach regularly, consider hiring a beach hut to give you and your pet somewhere to leave your kit and to cool down.
