Beautiful Bude offers you something rather unusual in the shape of this full-of-character wide-beamed barge sat on its historic canal.
Find it by the rowing boats in summer or the lock gates in winter. Come rain or shine, this is a beautiful spot to meet up, socialise and enjoy a cheeky treat, just like the locals.
The Barge is a friendly tearoom/restaurant serving traditional and modern food. Check the specials as there are often hidden gems to be found, such as a delicious mushroom melt. The locally-sourced meats, vegetables and freshly-caught fish are all cooked in-house and portions are generous.
Work on the Barge started in 2013 as a labour of love; when completed, it had to be craned onto the canal, with a crowd of locals watching. This memorable dining spot was opened to the public in 2016, proving very popular all year round.
For salads, sandwiches, cream teas, or just a coffee, this is a venue with a difference.
For evening dining, there is something rather special about being on the water, in beautiful surroundings, with a fully licensed bar to accompany the tasty food served with a smile.
When it comes to location, location, location, where better to enjoy a snack than here? This unique dining experience is close to car parking, with access to the charming flat canal walks and equally to sandy Summerleaze, one of Bude’s surfing beaches.
