Bay View Inn, Widemouth

Date Posted: 2 Aug 2020

The family who own the Bay View Inn at Widemouth, near Bude, are themselves dog owners which makes their venue definitely and consciously dog-friendly. Dogs are welcome both inside and out, and water bowls and doggie biscuits are provided. There is plenty to satisfy the discerning dog’s owner, too.

With stellar sea views, wonderful food using fresh, local ingredients, and plenty of ‘ginspiration’, the menu here includes sharing dishes, signature touches such as a rustic fish pie, light bites, classics and takeaways. Almost 40% of the menu is vegan or vegetarian, so there is a real choice.

Tuck into their themed surfer burgers, such as The Gnarly One to blow your head off, The Cutback with chicken and bacon, or El Rollo for the veggies with lentil patty and halloumi.

Their website claims they are Cornwall’s ‘worst kept secret’ and they certainly have a dominating presence on the road to Widemouth Bay, perched high overlooking the ocean. The Bay View has masses of outdoor seating, so on a fine evening, drink in the breathtaking sunset views over the bay. For al fresco diners, there is also a pirate ship play area for children, The Jolly View. A gentle sea breeze and a long cool drink while keeping a watchful eye – what not to like?

Here you will find a range of Cornish beers, and gins numbering over 50 (many local) alongside a super wine list.

Complement it with some tasty food and you will feel you are in a snatch of Cornish heaven.
