A trip to South Cornwall to remember

A trip to South Cornwall to remember

This month's secret personal highlight in Cornwall

The Merchants Manor, Falmouth

Whilst turning forty three this month I was asked what would you like to do for your birthday. Getting used to the idea that I’m a year older I tried to play the occasion down and replied, “I’m quite happy to relax and not to fuss.”

Well it didn’t quite turn out like that! I was told to get packing, ushered into the car and taken down to the south coast to Falmouth, to find that we had been booked into the delightful Merchants Manor.

Arriving to check in, we were greeted with the friendliest of welcomes and from that moment we relaxed and enjoyed this elegant and friendly hotel, which I would describe as boutique.

As we entered our room, Number 4, we were certainly pleased to say the least greeted by beautiful sophisticated furnishings, roll top free standing bath and a lovely comfortable sitting area, it had everything we needed. Vintage boutique with a modern sophisticated feel, yes we were happy.

The stylish bar and restaurant was so comfortable and inviting with an enormous elegant fire to relax next to, was there anything we could possibly want more!

The food was to die for and accompanied by fantastic service and I had my first oyster experience, which is now a firm favourite of mine.

The following morning we enjoyed a blissful relaxing massage to end our experience which was a perfect Cornwall break only 50 miles away from home.

Pandora Inn – Mylor

I have to say I’m a regular visitor when down this part of Cornwall to the Pandora Inn, but what a perfect way to end the trip before driving back home.

It’s always an exciting thought when told you’re going here, in my case for a spot of lunch on the way home to Sunny Bude.

The building has so much character with thatched roof and thick Cornish stone walls, it’s cosy, traditional and oozes character.  We secured ourselves a sea view table by the open fire and enjoyed fantastic mussels and locally sourced rabbit.  The food is simply extraordinary, and has to be in my Top 5 so far.

Well from not making too much of a fuss I’m so glad we got into the car, and yet again Cornwall never fails to deliver for a special occasion.  Even though the thought of being one year older is still a work in progress!
