A charming converted apple store with wooden hot tub

Close to Cornwall’s wild north coast and the granite tors of Dartmoor and Bodmin, North Beer Cottage is an oasis of rural peace and tranquillity. Tucked away in a tiny hamlet, this stunning dog-friendly retreat is a perfect place to get close to nature and explore this unique and unspoilt part of North Cornwall and beyond.

Originally an old apple store, the cottage has been lovingly restored by talented craftsmen from the west country, using local materials creating a stylish, understated meld of rustic and contemporary. Outside, an ancient barn now houses a hot tub where you can relax and watch the myriad of stars in the dark sky. And by day, enjoy the birdsong, a natural antidote to the stresses of everyday life.

Enjoy spending time together in the light, open plan country-style kitchen/diner which opens into a delightful, south-facing Mediterranean-style patio – perfect for your morning coffee. And, in the evening, why not open a bottle of wine, cuddle up round the wood burner, read a book, watch a film or have a go at the Cornish card game of Euchre.

And after a day’s exploring, sink into the large comfortable beds with their luxurious linen where  you’re assured of a good night’s sleep. Each bedroom, one upstairs and one down, has its own stylish en-suite, perfect for those who want a little extra privacy.

Step outside through the back door, pick up a towelling robe and a glass of bubbly and head into the locally made wooden hot tub. Or walk over the ancient cobbles through the rose arch where you’ll find the ‘secret garden’. Planted with bees in mind, you can recline with a book on the loungers, cook up a barbeque, or just enjoy being together. The outdoor area is totally enclosed so no need to worry about your furry companions.

North Beer Cottage enjoys a rural location in North Beer hamlet about a mile from the small village of Boyton. Launceston, the nearest town, is around 7 miles away. Despite its isolated position, North Beer Cottage has easy access to the A30 (5 miles) and the beautiful North Cornish and North Devon coast, Bodmin and Dartmoor.

Staying in Launceston gives you plenty of options for fun activities to make your holiday a memorable one!

If it is history you crave, Launceston castle should be on your itinerary and is a great setting for children to imagine themselves playing knights upon their imaginary steeds.  Of course Launceston is also known for its steam railway, great for little and big kids alike.  This steam train chugs through the countryside giving you a real flavour of Cornwall, ending at Newmills.

Launceston is only a short drive away from the beaches of North CornwallTrebarwith Strand, Widemouth Bay and Crackington Haven are all within easy reach and have beautiful soft golden sands for your little ones to build their sandcastles and decorate them with shells.  If you visit Crackington Haven, make sure to grab a bite to eat at The Coombe Barton pub, whose food is excellent!

Also on the north coast are Boscastle and Tintagel, two villages steeped in folklore and legends.  Discover King Arthur and Merlin at Tintagel Castle, then pop over to Boscastle to visit The Museum of Witchcraft before taking a stroll on the south-west coast path?  Also a great stop at Boscastle is The Boscastle Farmshop with great views, cafe and local produce.

A drive south of Launceston will bring you to the Tamar Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty.  The area is famed for its mining heritage and received world heritage status.  There are many walks, trails for mountain biking and horseback riding too!

Launceston has many great cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants to choose from.  The White Horse Inn serves excellent food and is very friendly.  It is known for having the best Sunday roast in town.  If you fancy a light lunch with great views, pay a visit to The Cowslip Tearooms.

With so much to do Launceston is a great place to get to know Cornwall from and spend some quality time together.
