An elegant holiday home which has been lovingly refurbished to a high standard

Newly renovated and thoughtfully decorated by local interior designer Chloe Morris, Firethorn is a striking home in an enviable location, just a short stroll away Bude’s award-winning beaches.

Inspired by its coastal location, Firethorn is a tranquil retreat which sleeps six. Split over two floors, there are three bedrooms in total. The property embraces a neutral palette with an uplifting blend of Cornish and Scandinavian inspired interior, pairing laidback luxury with home comforts.

With tasteful wooden flooring, additional skylight windows to allow the Cornish sunshine to flood the space and clean lines, the attention to detail is apparent as soon as you enter. There’s one bedroom on the ground floor at the front of the house, which can be conveniently set up as a twin or a lavish superking size, thanks to the plush zip ‘n’ link mattress. It also features its own ensuite with a shower. There’s also a downstairs WC for ease.

Step down to the open-plan living space, which is a spacious and calming environment. The modern fully-fitted kitchen with stunning marble worktop, also features wooden apex beams overhead and is every chef’s dream with its high specification appliances. There are integrated Neff ovens and an induction hob, a large American-style LG fridge freezer with ice dispenser, and a De’Longhi espresso coffee machine with milk frother. There’s also generously sized island complete with three wooden stools, to enjoy your morning coffee or a spot of breakfast.

Guests will also appreciate the fully equipped utility space, which adjoins the kitchen and has everything you could need for your Cornish holiday, including a Bloomberg washing machine and tumble dryer, plus a freestanding microwave. You can also access the garden from here.

The large wooden dining table comes complete with six wishbone chairs and is positioned next to the large bi-folding doors for a true indoor/outdoor experience, and floods this space with natural light. Photograph enthusiasts will also appreciate the Cornish motivated picture wall featured here. Meanwhile the living space is elegant yet cosy, with a contemporary log burner, LG wall-mounted TV and large sumptuous SNUG corner sofa. There are also two laidback armchairs, to ensure everyone can sit comfortably.

Firethorn is less than a mile from the seaside town of Bude, which sits on the North Cornwall and Devon border and offers a traditional beachside holiday for couples and families alike.

A 15-minute stroll from the property, there are two sandy beaches located in the town itself, Summerleaze Beach and Crooklets Beach. Both have beach huts available for hire and overlooking Summerleaze Beach is the Bude Sea Pool, which is a free tidal swimming pool that is run and maintained by a team of volunteers (so donations are welcomed). Other beaches only a couple of miles away are Widemouth Bay, Northcott Mouth and Sandymouth Beach, all of which showcase dramatic scenery.

There are a variety of cafes and bars if you are looking to eat out, from The Barge (a floating cafe on Bude’s canal) to The Beach that serves fine dining and cocktails with fantastic views out to sea. A couple of miles outside of Bude at Northcott Mouth, The Rustic Tea Garden serves cream teas with generous amount of proper Cornish clotted cream.

If you are seeking an active holiday, then Bude has a number of surf, paddleboard and adventure activity schools to help you have fun, whilst staying safe. Bude’s beaches are favoured with surfers, kite surfers and paddle boarders. There are surf hire huts too, for those who are just ‘trying it out’.

The Bude canal has fun for all the family with pedal boats and rowing boats for hire, followed by a spot of shopping on the canal side at The Wharf, where you will find many local artisan items for sale. Throughout summer, there is also the Bude Farmers Market held each Friday and you can also find a proper Cornish ice-cream here to cool down with.

Widemouth Bay sits just a couple of miles south of Bude and while it benefits from all the Bude has to offer, is a slightly quieter setting. It is a beachside village dotted with cafes and bars, plus everything you need for a great day at the beach. Surf hire and surf schools are available and there is a very chilled out feeling to this area.

Bude and Widemouth Bay are close to the A39, which makes it easy to explore the North Cornwall and Devon coastline. Only a short drive away are the historic villages of Tintagel and Boscastle, steeped in legends and folklore. Padstow is also only an hours drive from Bude, and is favoured among foodies with many talented chefs serving up fresh local food.

We had the most wonderful stay at Firethorn. It was a beautifully decorated, cozy, immaculately clean and well-equipped home. We stay at a lot of self catering holiday homes, and this has been our favourite. Thank you so much to the owners for the care and attention to detail.

We’ve already recommended it to friends, and are hoping to return!
