Spacious family beach retreat with hot tub, just moments from Bude
With Bude to the north and Widemouth Bay to the south, Meadowside is a sea lover’s dream as there’s a beach at every turn.
This large, five bed detached luxury home, is enviably positioned on a peaceful lane, yet is walking distance to Bude’s fabulous beaches and town centre. Recently undergoing an expansive renovation, Meadowside is a modern space lit up by Cornish sunshine. Contemporary design and lavish touches are order of the day here, ensuring it’ll be a holiday home to remember.
Space reigns at this property, which is apparent as soon as you enter the building, you’ll notice a convenient storage room with a board rack for surfboards, a hanging rail for wetsuits, and an outdoor shower to rinse away a day at the beach. Step inside the large entrance hall, and there’s a walk-in cloakroom to the left and steps leading to the open-plan kitchen/diner/living space, which is the hub of the home. Featuring a large well-equipped kitchen, complete with island and breakfast bar with four stools, budding chefs are well catered for with integrated double oven, induction hob and American style fridge freezer.
Seamlessly flowing through to the dining space, there’s a Scandi-inspired wooden table complete with two benches and six chairs. Thanks to the elongated windows, light floods the area, and its minimalist design makes it a wonderful spot for a family feast. There’s also fabulous kids’ playroom next door, if you want to enjoy an adults-only meal. Adjacent is the relaxed lounge. Showcasing cool surf-inspired wall art, which is befitting this beach retreat, there’s a plush corner sofa to kick back on. For cosy winter nights, there’s a contemporary wood burner to hunker down with your favourite film on the 65″ wall-mounted Sony smartTV fully loaded with Netflix and Disney+. Plus, the Sonos soundbar allows the guests to enjoy the tunes. You also get direct access to the property’s front garden, via sliding patio doors.
Have a family who want to watch different things? Fear not. Meadowside has it covered with the luxury of an additional snug, with wall-mounted smartTV. There’s a sofa bed, which means this can also double up as a fifth bedroom, if required.
The thoughtful touches continue upstairs where there are four well-appointed bedrooms. Naturally, the master suite is the star of the show, with its super king size bed, built-in wardrobes, dual aspect view, wall-mounted smartTV, and sizeable ensuite which boasts a large walk-in shower and separate bath, for a relaxing soak after a day exploring.
Bedroom four, a double in size, also features its own spacious ensuite with bath and shower over. Bedroom two and three are similar in size, one is set up as a twin making it a perfect children’s room with playful mountain wallpaper, while the other is a double with lovely countryside views. There’s also a modern family bathroom, which boasts a corner bathtub and freestanding shower.
The outside space at Meadowside is what sets this property apart for a memorable family holiday. Hot tub? Check. BBQ and outdoor dining set? Double check. Substantial children’s play area including play park and mini football pitch? Triple check. The large lawned back garden is split into two areas, the upper section is a play paradise, while the lower terrace – closest to the house – is a fabulous area for adults to relax in the bubbling hot tub, or enjoy alfresco dining.
While we wouldn’t blame you for not wanting to leave Meadowside, you are well positioned to explore the local area. Located on a quiet road which leads directly to Bude’s canal and cycle path, a three-minute stroll away, alternatively join up to the coast path which can be reached in less than five minutes by foot. Widemouth Bay, a couple of miles south of Bude, is a slightly quieter setting. It is a beachside village dotted with cafes and bars, plus everything you need for a great day at the beach. Surf hire and surf schools are available and there is a very chilled out feeling to this area.
Bude, which sits on the North Cornwall and Devon border, offers a traditional beachside holiday for couples and families alike. Meadowside is located on a quiet road which leads directly to Bude’s canal and cycle path, a three-minute stroll away, or even quicker on two wheels!
There are two sandy beaches located in the town itself, Summerleaze Beach and Crooklets Beach. Both have beach huts available for hire and overlooking Summerleaze Beach is the Bude Sea Pool, which is a free tidal swimming pool that is run and maintained by a team of volunteers (so donations are welcomed). Other beaches only a couple of miles away are Widemouth Bay, Northcott Mouth and Sandymouth Beach, all of which showcase dramatic scenery.
There are a variety of cafes and bars if you are looking to eat out, from The Barge (a floating cafe on Bude’s canal) to The Beach that serves fine dining and cocktails with fantastic views out to sea. A couple of miles outside of Bude at Northcott Mouth, The Rustic Tea Garden serves cream teas with generous amount of proper Cornish clotted cream.
If you are seeking an active holiday, then Bude has a number of surf, paddleboard and adventure activity schools to help you have fun, whilst staying safe. Bude’s beaches are favoured with surfers, kite surfers and paddle boarders. There are surf hire huts too, for those who are just ‘trying it out’.
The Bude canal has fun for all the family with pedal boats and rowing boats for hire, followed by a spot of shopping on the canal side at The Wharf, where you will find many local artisan items for sale. Throughout summer, there is also the Bude Farmers Market held each Friday and you can also find a proper Cornish ice-cream here to cool down with.
Bude and Widemouth Bay are close to the A39, which makes it easy to explore the North Cornwall and Devon coastline. Only a short drive away are the historic villages of Tintagel and Boscastle, steeped in legends and folklore. Padstow is also only an hours drive from Bude, and is favoured among foodies with many talented chefs serving up fresh local food.
