There is plenty to keep you busy and if you are up for getting active, then a bike ride on the Camel Trail will bring you to Padstow,  a small village on the Camel Estuary, famed for its culinary delights and celebrity chefs.  Park up the bikes and sample some of Rick Stein’s famous fish and chips on the harbour front.  While you are around the harbour, why not hop on a sealife safari for the chance to encounter the local wildlife, including seals or a basking shark if you are lucky.

Further inland, Cardinham Woods is also a great destination for bike enthusiasts but accommodates walkers and young families too. With BBQs, a stream, walking paths and a quaint little cafe, there is enough fun here for the whole day.  They even have a dog washing station, to make sure the dirt stay in the woods and not in your car.

Experience both the north and south coast, as you are close enough to both. On the north coast, Newquay offers up brilliant waves for surfers and body boarders.  Just outside of Newquay, you will find Watergate Bay with a selection of top quality restaurants to choose from including cafe bar, The Living Space.  On the south coast, take a day trip out to the historic St Michael’s Mount, accessible by foot at low tide or by boat if the tide is in.

Bodmin Jail is a must and is one of the most famous attractions in this are. Tours are available, but it is supposedly haunted, so you never know who or what you might bump into!  Dating back to the 1700’s, Bodmin Jail has more that just one story to tell. Take a jacket though, even on hot days, it gets cold with those thick stone walls.

Now managed by The National Trust, Lanhyndrock is another impressive building. This late Victorian house is magnificently preserved and offers a glimpse into what life was like for the aristocracy and their team of workers. It has expansive gardens too, so pack a picnic in your self-catering cottage and bring it to sit on the lawns and enjoy the stunning views.

If cooking isn’t in your holiday vocabulary then there is lots of variety for eating out and it is worth paying a visit to the nearby villages St Mabyn and St Tudy. The St Mabyn Inn serves hearty British meals made from local produce and has a lovely beer garden for those long summer evenings.
