The Old Rectory, draped with blossoming wisteria in the spring and stunning manicured lawns and leafy greens, this Grade II listed building, with parts dating back as far as the 17th century, is a striking holiday home sleeping eight.

Large in size and in its history, The Old Rectory is situated just a five-minute stroll from the village of Kilkhampton, the most northerly village in Cornwall and is believed to date back to Saxon times. The village now boasts a real sense of community and features a village pub, a family butchers and two shops. You’re also not far from sandy shores with glorious National Trust-owned Sandymouth just three miles away.

The Old Rectory makes a somewhat special property for your Cornish holiday. Sleeping eight guests the home is generous in size with charming features throughout. Downstairs you’ll find a spacious country kitchen complete with farmhouse-style table, wooden chairs and bench to comfortably seat eight and patio doors out to the lawn. The kitchen is fully equipped for all your cooking needs with traditional Aga for use in the winter as well as a conventional oven and hob, an American fridge freezer with ice maker, Nespresso-style coffee machine and dishwasher.

Walk through the large archway and there’s a cosy snug with TV, sumptuous sofas and a wood burning stove. Off the kitchen is also the elegant dining room with its high ceilings, plush seating (up to ten diners) and stunning views across the lawns and beyond to the Moors. Downstairs there’s also a more formal lounge area at the front of the house, complete with a decorative fireplace, traditional large sash windows and plenty of comfy seating to kick back and enjoy all your favourite shows on the smartTV. There’s also a handy boot room, as well as a downstairs WC and access to the property’s shared laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Make your way up the striking spiral staircase to the mid-level floor which features a bedroom with a zip and link bed, which can be set up as a lavish superking bed or as a twin. There’s also a family bathroom on this floor with freestanding shower and separate bath.

On the top floor guests will drift into a slumber in the stunning master bedroom with a super-king sleigh and charming ensuite bathroom complete with roll top bath and walk-in shower. Next door is the twin bunk room and a spacious fourth bedroom with a king-sized bed. These bedrooms are all filled with Cornish light thanks to the traditional sash windows.

The Old Rectory is just six miles inland from Bude, sitting on the North Cornwall and Devon border and offering a traditional beachside holiday for couples and families alike. The house is located on the outskirts of the small village of Kilkhampton where a short walk away you will find there’s a Coop supermarket, local shops, Church, takeaways and pub.

There are two Blue Flag sandy beaches located in Bude itself, Summerleaze Beach and Crooklets Beach. Both have beach huts available for hire and overlooking Summerleaze Beach is the Bude Sea Pool, which is a free tidal swimming pool that is run and maintained by a team of volunteers (so donations are welcomed). Other beaches only a couple of miles away are Widemouth BayNorthcott Mouth and Sandymouth Beach, all of which showcase dramatic scenery and are dog friendly all year round.

There are a variety of cafes and bars if you are looking to eat out, from The Barge (a floating cafe on Bude’s canal) to Elements at The beach that serves fine dining and cocktails with fantastic views out to sea.

If you are seeking an active holiday, then Bude has a number of surf, paddleboard and adventure activity schools to help you have fun, whilst staying safe. Bude’s beaches are favoured with surfers, kite surfers and paddle boarders. There are surf hire huts too, for those who are just ‘trying it out’.

The Bude canal has fun for all the family with pedal boats and rowing boats for hire, followed by a spot of shopping on the canal side at The Wharf, where you will find many local artisan items for sale. Throughout summer, there is also the Bude Farmers Market held each Friday and you can also find a proper Cornish ice-cream here to cool down with.

Widemouth Bay sits just a couple of miles south of Bude and while it benefits from all the Bude has to offer, is a slightly quieter setting. It is a beachside village dotted with cafes and bars, plus everything you need for a great day at the beach. Surf hire and surf schools are available and there is a very chilled out feeling to this area.

Bude and Widemouth Bay are close to the A39, which makes it easy to explore the North Cornwall and Devon coastline. Only a short drive away are the historic villages of Tintagel and Boscastle, steeped in legends and folklore. Padstow is also only an hours drive from Bude, and is favoured among foodies with many talented chefs serving up fresh local food.
