A peaceful barn conversion in the countryside

Dreaming of a break in the rural countryside? The Old Dairy is a beautiful barn conversion situated three miles outside of the popular seaside town of Bude in North Cornwall.

As the name suggests, The Old Dairy has been tastefully converted from a working milking parlour, to offer a fabulous holiday home. As a single storey property, this barn boasts wonderfully high ceilings with characterful beams, gorgeous wooden flooring throughout and is flooded with natural Cornish light.

Sleeping up to five people, The Old Dairy has one double bedroom and a twin room. Boasting sinkable deep mattresses, the bedrooms are the perfect place to enter the land of nod after a day exploring. The twin room features a zip ‘n’ link beds which can be converted to a super-king size if required. In addition, there is also a pull-out single guest bed which is suitable for a child up to the age of 12. The newly-appointed bathroom is bright and contemporary, and comes complete with a freestanding shower and separate bath.

Through to the lounge, it’s a superb space with its impressive brick fireplace, open fire and French doors through to the garden. Traditional meets industrial with stylish draping lights from the exposed beams to create a cosy space, plus a sumptuous leather sofa and comfy armchairs to unwind on. There’s a TV to enjoy, and retro game fans are well catered as this property comes with its own Sega Mega Drive, complete with 40 pre-installed classic games and two handsets.

The large kitchen is well-equipped with everything you could need for your cooking endeavours. There’s a newly fitted Bosch oven, an integrated dishwasher, and a washer-dryer, alongside all the kitchen essentials. The dining table is situated in the kitchen and comfortably seats five and there are French doors leading to the garden. Perhaps you fancy eating al-fresco in the south-facing garden? Fully enclosed, this fantastic outdoor area is a glorious sun trap in the warmer months. With plenty of space to relax, there’s also a trampoline and Wendy house for young ones to enjoy. There’s also outdoor seating and a BBQ which is perfect for warmer evenings.

You may be nestled in the Cornish countryside at The Old Dairy, but it comes fully equipped with unlimited fibre optic wifi. The Old Dairy sits just over a mile outside of the village of Marhamchurch which has a local shop and pub, the Bullers Arms.

Bude sits on the North Cornwall and Devon border and offers a traditional beachside holiday for couples and families alike, and is three miles away.

There are two sandy beaches located in the town itself, Summerleaze Beach and Crooklets Beach. Both have beach huts available for hire and overlooking Summerleaze Beach is the Bude Sea Pool, which is a free tidal swimming pool that is run and maintained by a team of volunteers (so donations are welcomed). Other beaches only a couple of miles away are Widemouth Bay, Northcott Mouth and Sandymouth Beach, all of which showcase dramatic scenery.

There are a variety of cafes and bars if you are looking to eat out, from The Barge (a floating cafe on Bude’s canal) to The Beach that serves fine dining and cocktails with fantastic views out to sea. A couple of miles outside of Bude at Northcott Mouth, The Rustic Tea Garden serves cream teas with generous amount of proper Cornish clotted cream.

If you are seeking an active holiday, then Bude has a number of surf, paddleboard and adventure activity schools to help you have fun, whilst staying safe. Bude’s beaches are favoured with surfers, kite surfers and paddle boarders. There are surf hire huts too, for those who are just ‘trying it out’.

The Bude canal has fun for all the family with pedal boats and rowing boats for hire, followed by a spot of shopping on the canal side at The Wharf, where you will find many local artisan items for sale. Throughout summer, there is also the Bude Farmers Market held each Friday and you can also find a proper Cornish ice-cream here to cool down with.

Widemouth Bay sits just a couple of miles south of Bude and while it benefits from all the Bude has to offer, is a slightly quieter setting. It is a beachside village dotted with cafes and bars, plus everything you need for a great day at the beach. Surf hire and surf schools are available and there is a very chilled out feeling to this area.

Bude and Widemouth Bay are close to the A39, which makes it easy to explore the North Cornwall and Devon coastline. Only a short drive away are the historic villages of Tintagel and Boscastle, steeped in legends and folklore. Padstow is also only an hours drive from Bude, and is favoured among foodies with many talented chefs serving up fresh local food.
