About

Polkanugga Farm nestles in gorgeous countryside between Coverack and the Helford river, near the pretty fishing village of Porthallow, with its beautiful backdrop of woodland scenery and thatched cottages.

The dramatic Lizard coastline here is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which tells you all you need to know about this spectacular area. Located in a traditional farm courtyard at the end of a tarmac track, two stables on a 12-acre smallholding have been converted to create a couple of exquisitely comfortable holiday rentals.

This tranquil location in a lesser known area of Cornwall is wonderful to wildlife-watch, while also enjoying easy access to entertainment, food and adventure.

Swallows Rest

Just the right size for a family or, combined with Poldurra, for an extended family or group of friends to visit, Swallows Rest sleeps six in three bedrooms (one super king and two king-sized), all of which are ensuite – all beautifully tiled, and one with a bath.

Here you have fabulously light and bright, sociable open-plan living with a beamed well-equipped kitchen/diner, and elegant, tasteful decor. A powerful woodburner makes for cosy evenings in.

A traditional-style dining table plus breakfast bar area, with views to the gardens makes the most of large windows which fill the space with light. The accommodation overlooks glorious countryside, with plenty of acreage to explore outside.

Facilities are perfect here to organise family table-tennis, devour homemade pizzas and relax in the heavenly hot tub. Bliss.

Outside of the farm, you can travel to try the foraging menu at the Michelin-star New Yard restaurant at Trelowarren or The Green House in nearby St Keverne. Alternatively, explore the harbour town of Porthleven and try one of the renowned fish restaurants, and check out Great British Menu star, Jude Kereama’s restaurant, Kota.

Activities

Nearby, check out all that the Lizard has to offer, with dramatic cliffs, Mullion with its harbour for superb sunsets, and the National Trust’s beautiful Kynance Cove, one of the most photographed coves in Cornwall.

Traditional fishing villages include Coverack and Cadgwith. Gardens, such as Trebah and Glendurgan are also across the River Helford (there is a ferry). This is also a brilliant area for watersports, such as kayaking. Here, you can choose to stay not stray, and enjoy a truly relaxing time on the Lizard Peninsula; alternatively, it makes a perfect base to explain other places of interest such as St Ives, Gwithian or the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

If you’re feeling a little more active, why not bring your bikes or enroll on a scuba diving course at Porthkerris? If you prefer to stay above the water take surfing lessons at Dan Joel’s Surf school at Poldhu and combine with a days kayaking with Lizard Adventures.  Or if you fancy a day walking the South West Coast path make sure you save time for a pint at Porthallow’s The Five Pilchards and a cream tea Fat Apples Cafe.

For more food for thought there’s lots of choice nearby, why not try the foraging menu at the Michelin star New Yard restaurant at Trelowarren? Or The Green House in nearby St Keverne? Further afield spend an evening exploring the harbour town of Porthleven and try one of the renowned fish restaurants.
