About

Just 400m from the sandy shores of Watergate Bay, Stable Cottage is a stunning coastal retreat. Spacious, welcoming, and set back in a secluded green space, it sleeps eight guests in total comfort.

Welcome to Stable Cottage, a secluded detached home where you’ll feel like you’re in your own sanctuary, yet only 400m from award-winning Watergate Bay. Sleeping eight, this light-filled contemporary retreat is a fabulous space to enjoy a Cornish beach holiday.

Enter through a private gate, via a large driveway and you’ll see stone-built Stable Cottage sitting pretty. Conveniently spread across one floor, as you make your way through the cottage you’ll be greeted with plenty of natural light, comforting furnishings and generous space. Neutrally styled, there are many standout features, including exposed stonework and vaulted ceilings.

The open-plan living/kitchen/diner is the perfect space for group entertaining. The vibrant kitchen, with fully fitted creamy blue cabinets, is a focal point with stunning Moroccan tiled walls. It comes well equipped too, there’s a Neff electric hob and extractor fan, an integrated microwave/combi oven, a warming drawer, American-style fridge freezer, dishwasher, and an elegant wine fridge. Coffee lovers are also taken care of with a Nespresso Magimix coffee machine, what better way to kickstart your day?

Enjoy fine Cornish fare on the kitchen’s island breakfast bar with two stools, or dine together on the large wooden table, which has a one bench and five chairs comfortably seating eight – it’s situated under a stunning roof light and the large double aspect windows have some fabulous garden views, flooding the space with natural light. And for when it’s time to kick back the comfy corner sofa has plenty of room for guests to relax under the vaulted ceiling with wooden beams. There’s also an added padded window seat, footstool and a wall-mounted smartTV to enjoy your favourite shows.

Let’s not forget the convenient utility room at the back of the property, with washing machine and tumble dryer, plus double doors to the back garden.

The bedrooms are all generous sizes, thoughtfully decorated with a calming coastal colour palette which is inviting yet restful with wooden flooring throughout and exposed stone feature walls. Laid out as two separate wings, with the open-plan living space taking centre stage, you’ll find a family bathroom on each side as well as access to the rear gardens. The master bedroom is located at the front of the house with views out to the glorious garden. There’s a sumptuous super-king sized bed, wall-mounted smartTV, and plenty of storage. Likewise, the second double is also at the front of the house, benefitting from gorgeous garden and countryside views, it features a king size bed, wall-mounted TV, ample storage and a patio door. The two further bedrooms are both at the rear of the house; there’s a twin set up and bunk beds in the other bedroom, each room is flooded with natural light and is fully equipped for your storage needs. As mentioned there’s a bathroom on each side, to the right (the master bedroom side) is the family bathroom which features bath with shower over, a glass roof light, heated towel rail, WC and basin. To the left, there’s a handy shower room which is positioned off a utility room, which boasts a large walk-in rainfall shower.

One of the highlights has to be the fabulous outdoor space, with lots of sectors to explore. Situated in a glorious countryside setting, you are surrounded by rolling Cornish fields and a wealth of trees which feels wonderfully secluded and private. The large driveway has space for at least four cars, while the generous lawns wrap around the property. To the rear guests are spoilt with a large patio which is slightly elevated from the house, via some steps. There’s plenty of garden furniture for everyone, with an outdoor corner sofa which can be adjusted into a sun lounger, a coffee table, two chairs and side table and a concrete masonry charcoal BBQ. But our favourite spot has to be the sun drenched decked roof terrace, complete with picnic bench and chairs, the perfect spot to relax while the kids and or your four-legged friend to enjoy the expansive rear garden.

The location is truly is something special, a short stroll from stunning Watergate Bay, an award-winning beach with one of Cornwall’s most glorious sunset panoramas, fabulous surfing credentials, alongside a great choice of eateries, plenty of watersport activities and a relaxed seaside vibe.

Activities

Just 400m away, Watergate Bay is one of the largest beaches in and around Newquay, and undeniably one of Cornwall’s most famous. But it’s not just a surfer’s paradise, it happens to be one of the few year-round dog-friendly beaches with 2 miles of sandy beaches available at low tide. There are plenty of rock pools to explore, golden sand to wander on and water to paddle in. It’s also perfect for kitesurfing and windsurfing, or try your hand at kayaking, coasteering, surf rafting and plenty of other adrenaline sports.

But you certainly won’t be short of beaches to explore here. Dog-friendly Mawgan Porth is just over two miles north from Watergate Bay, a beautiful beach with golden sands where you are sheltered by high cliffs and even at the busiest times, the beach is big enough at low tide to cater for everyone.

Newquay’s beaches are amazingly clean, and generally dotted with surfers (it is a surfing mecca). The key beaches, TowanLusty GlazeTolcarne and Great Western, are all pretty sheltered and safe for swimming, too. The surfing is unmatched – Fistral Beach offers a world-class surfing experience. A trip to Pollyjoke Beach is well worth a visit, off the beaten track, it is a beautiful little cove set away from the main activity of Newquay, around seven mils from Watergate Bay. In spring, the beach is overlooked by dramatic huge fields of red poppies.

If you like eating out, you’ve come to the right place. We particularly love Zacry’s, perfect for a special night out with a bistro style menu.

For breakfast why not head to The Beach Hut for a scrumptious breakfast? Using local ingredients with international cuisine, diners will enjoy the large windows open onto the deck overlooking Watergate Bay. Or a great spot for lunch is Wax Watergate Bay. A cool surfers’ hangout, with hand-rolled sourdough pizzas, tasty small plates and hearty burgers, plus plenty of beer to wash it down with.

This stretch of coast is a beautiful area of countryside with plenty of walks. Along with the South West Coast Path, if you want some peaceful beauty then why not opt to visit the bonsai, pagodas and ponds of The Japanese Garden? Trenance Gardens form another fine option for a day away from the beach.

An attraction for families is Newquay Zoo, set in over ten acres of sub-tropical lakeside gardens and home to many endangered species. The Blue Reef Aquarium with its shark tunnel is also a fab outing for a rainy day. Or you may fancy a special spa day, we recommend heading to Fistral Spa and Headland Spa.

We had a wonderful stay at Stable Cottage!

We spent a lot of time at the beaches so having a washing machine, washing line and tumble drier was invaluable! Fantastic location, comfy beds and a gorgeous garden and roof terrace for relaxing in after a day at the beach! We will be back!!
