An expansive luxury retreat
Nestled on the edge of the Camel Estuary with stunning views over to Padstow, Rock is the perfect setting for Shalmar Hollow, a calming retreat that invites you to relax and unwind in style. With plenty of room for up to twelve people, this cottage offers space and tranquility in abundance and is decorated in a natural contemporary style.
With a B&G music system available in the kitchen and dining area, this is the perfect place to rustle up a plate of pasta whilst enjoying a glass of wine. If you enjoy cooking outside, then there are two terraced areas and a BBQ, plus a fire pit if you want to sit out into the evening.
Throughout this expansive home, there are plenty of places to seek a quiet area. Downstairs there is a living room that extends out into the conservatory, or upstairs relax in the elegant mezzanine sitting room and enjoy the views of the estuary over your timbered terrace or catch up with a good book in the study area. Upstairs the master bedroom has not only it’s own en-suite but also a dedicated dressing room, to make getting ready for a night out a decadent affair. Downstairs you will find a family suite with king-sized bedroom and a twin room. If the children want to play indoors, they have their own play room filled with toys and board games.
In the day, enjoy diving into a good book at the side of the pool or take a dip with the children. If you fancy a day out with buckets and spades then this property is only a 15 minute walk to Porthilly Beach, or for a slightly less sandy trip out it is only a five minute drive to Rock.
When it is time to make your way to bed, sink in beneath goose feather pillows and Egyptian cotton sheets for the ultimate good nights sleep. With everything you need chill out and kick back, your holiday here will run precisely to Cornish time.
Facilities:
Padstow sits on the Camel Estuary, opposite its neighbouring village, Rock. Both are connected by a short ferry ride and each has its own unique identity.
A holiday in Padstow will be filled with fun and food! Every foodie in the UK knows Padstow is the place to come to experience the best fresh locally sourced ingredients and in particular, seafood! Celebrity chef, Rick Stein, has a number of businesses here including a cafe, a delicatessen, a bakery, a restaurant and his famous fish and chips. Rick isn’t the only move and shaker in town though and Padstow has many strings to its bow, including No.6 by Paul Ainsworth and the Cally Oyster Bar & Grill. There is a good mix of foods here too and a pasty from the Chough’s bakery is just as well advised, followed by a famous Roskilly’s ice cream.
Whilst the food at Padstow is definitely a highlight, it is not all that Padstow and Rock have to offer. Why not catch a Sea life Safari to see local seals, dolphins and if you are lucky, a basking shark. It’s a great way to experience the coast.
For those who enjoy jumping in feet first, there is always plenty of fun to be had with Ocean High, who offer lessons in stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking and kite-surfing in Rock. Brea Beach at Rock has soft golden expanses of sand that are a perfect place to relax with the family and take a dip in the water. If you want to take it inland then why not cycle the Camel Trail which provides an easy route to cycle to Bodmin.
If you enjoy a heated pool to relax in, Rock’s luxury spa Cowshed might be more up your street. Cowshed is part of the St Moritz Spa and Hotel, where you can indulge in some serious pampering and relaxation. Perfect for getting ready before a night out at local restaurant, The Mariners, where you can take in the view of the twinkling Padstow lights across the water.
No holiday is complete without a spot of shopping and Padstow has plenty of galleries, clothes shops, gift shops and more. A particularly nice shop to visit is Whistlefish, which stocks pretty illustrations of Padstow and the surrounding area.
If you would like to explore further afield, then Padstow is positioned close enough to the A39 to make day trips to Bude, St Ives and the south coast easy to reach. There is so much to explore in this area, that you will never be bored!
