About
Compass Point is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of waterfront living in Cornwall. Sleeping six, this striking property is an architectural marvel which fully takes advantage of its frontline location where you’re surrounded by captivating views of Mevagissey Bay and beyond.
Situated on the calming south coast of Cornwall in charming Mevagissey, if it’s coastal vistas and luxury living that you’re after, you’d struggle to surpass Compass Point. Perched on the south-facing cliffs, the view needs to be seen to be believed.
This remarkable property has been designed to create the very best outlooks, benefiting from an upside-down style. The scene is well and truly set as soon as you enter the building, as you’re greeted by the striking entrance hall with large lightwell overhead and a bespoke stainless steel, timber and glass staircase.
Guests can enjoy sea views from each of the three lavish bedrooms, and the welcoming open-plan living space is truly enveloped by the ever-changing Cornish sea, from the serene calming stillness of the ocean on a summer’s day to dramatic storm watching in the winter. Witness incredible sunrise and moon skies from Compass Point, while nature lovers will be engrossed by the kestrels which nest on the cliffs, with diving gannets, seals and dolphins also known to put on a display. And if you ever tire of the view, kick back with your favourite film or show on the wall-mounted super-size smartTV.
Inside it’s an inviting light-filled space; guests will appreciate the coastal-meets-Aztec styling combinations, which sees high standard, tasteful décor complete the lavish picture. And Cornwall’s creativity hasn’t been forgotten, from the fabulous selection of artwork from local artists across the county and West Country, to smaller details such as the distinctive bread board made from a tree at Pencarrow Estate, Cornwall’s pool of talented artisans are celebrated at Compass Point.
Upstairs, each of the three bedrooms boast not only its own private en-suite, sumptuous beds with comforting soft furnishings for a restful night’s sleep, but direct access to the glass-fronted balcony which stretches across the top floor.
The outside space at Compass Point offers endless viewing spots, as the vista stretches across Mevagissey Bay, with rugged Chapel Point peninsula and Portmellon Beach in view. The multi-level landscaping means you can sit back and drink in the view, as you’re in reaching distance of the sea. From the silver sphere water features to the St Piran’s Cornish flag which has been incorporated into the paving, the outdoor area is a property highlight.
If you can bring yourself to leave Compass Point, you’re less than a ten-minute stroll to the charmingly quaint fishing village of Mevagissey, with its idyllic harbour, award-winning restaurants and fabulous walking coastal opportunities, or why not catch the ferry to Fowey? If you’re wanting a day spent at the beach Portmellon Beach is less than ten-minutes by foot, or you are just two miles from Pentewan Beach which offers a large stretch of sand, or closer still is Mevagissey’s own Polstreath Beach. One thing’s for sure, however you choose to spend your days, a holiday at Compass Point is spectacular.
Please note that due to the property’s unique location and design, it is not suitable for children under 10, and the steep steps for access make it unsuitable for wheelchair access.

Activities
With its quaint charm and pretty backstreets, Mevagissey is a wonderful location for you to book your Cornish holiday cottage. Mevagissey is a cute and quintessential Cornish fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall, with a lot to offer. Holidaymakers like to enjoy traditional fish and chips on the harbourside, whilst watching the boats bob up and down on the water. Crabbing is also a popular activity for children and big kids too, on the harbour walls.
Falling on the trail of the south-west coast path, it is an ideal place for walkers, being only a short stroll out of the village on either side to join the path and take in some spectacular views along the coastline. In summer months, sailing boats can often be spotted cruising along on the water.
It wouldn’t be a holiday without a spot of gift shopping and Mevagissey has a delightful selection of independent shops, galleries and cafes dotted along the bunting lined street. You will also find some real pubs with a real Cornish welcome awaiting you. Closest to Compass Point is the truly fabulous The Rising Sun, down the road in Portmellon with fabulous views, food and local beverages to sip and savour – plus it’s less than a 10-minute walk. The Harbour Tavern in Mevagissey itself, is known for its fresh seafood and selection of locally sourced Cornish drinks, make sure to check it out while you are there. More tucked away are a couple of bars at The Fountain Inn, which is at the foot of Cliff Street and popular with the locals. Fifteenth century, it is the oldest public house in the village.
For a romantic meal there is the intimate Salamander, which also uses high-quality Cornish produce, or the Sharksfin is in a glorious location, right on the quay, perfect for an evening G & T.
A short drive from your self-catering holiday in Mevagissey, you can find The Lost Gardens of Heligan. These Victorian gardens were only rediscovered in the 1990s after becoming overgrown and lost to nature. Volunteers have been working ever since to restore the gardens to their former glory and they include a jungle, a kitchen garden and wildflower meadows. If you enjoy gardens, then Pinetum Gardens just outside Charlestown is also a great place to spend an afternoon.
Spending time on the beach is always high on a Cornish holiday agenda and Mevagissey and its surrounding areas have some lovely ones to choose from. Mevagissey’s own beach (Polstreath beach) is around a quarter of a mile along the coast path and has 200 steps to descend down but is pretty and sheltered. Other beaches nearby include Pentewan Beach, Portmellon Beach and Gorran Haven Beach. Gorran Haven has a wonderful village beach vibe, quiet and away from a lot of the crowds, this beach is brilliant for a lazy family day out and has places to get lunch too.
This south coast is steeped in history and a visit to Wheal Martyn Clay Works gives an insight into Cornwall’s past. Poldark fans will be familiar with the harbour village of Charlestown which is slightly east of Mevagissey. Charlestown is a small harbour and has regularly been used as a filming location for one of TV’s favourite programmes. Or why not hop on the ferry to Fowey? The options are plentiful in marvellous Mevagissey.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay!
The views were breathtaking, with stunning costal scenery that we never tired of. The house itself is immaculate and thoughtfully styled, comfortable and luxurious throughout. Every detail has been considered and we adored (for the second time) our relaxing and peaceful week at Compass Point.

We would love to stay again!
The information provided before and on arrival was excellent and the house was spotless and well maintained. We would certainly recommend a stay at Compass Point.

One morning we sat in the lounge watching approximately 15 dolphins jumping out the water. It was so memorable! The town of Mevagissey is lovely with a few good restaurants and we enjoyed some lovely walks as well.
We had the pleasure of staying at Compass Point for a few days between Christmas and New Year and what a wonderful time we had. The house was warm, comfortable and very inviting. It had everything you could wish for. The views of the sea were stunning.

Fantastic! We'll definitely be back!
Compass point was incredibly well-equipped, making our stay so comfortable. It was such a luxury to be just a short 5-minute walk to Portmellon for a morning dip. The views were breathtaking but what really stood out was the beautiful interior design. The well-decorated space made everything feel so welcoming. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience!
