Characterful Country House

This light-filled, south-facing house, situated in a hamlet between St Ewe and Lower Sticker, makes for a perfect family or friend get-together. If you want a luxurious and welcoming gathering place for up to 10 people, here you have it. There’s plenty of space for everyone, including your four-legged friends.

With five bedrooms, this captivating country house is a Grade II listed building set within 2 delightful acres of beautiful ‘away from it all’ Cornish countryside.

For lovers of history, this characterful accommodation dates back to 1780, enjoying gardens to the front, with a covered outside dining area, and a walled garden to the rear with a breakfast dining area. The dual aspect of many of the rooms is an additional bonus, while the beautiful wooden floors reflect the undoubted character of the downstairs rooms.

This house really feels like home because until now, that’s exactly what it has been.

See the extensive library of books in the reception room. The kitchen is tastefully decorated, light, bright, modern and user-friendly with all you could need, while the dining/family room has a large stylish table long enough to easily seat 10 people. French windows open out to the breakfast area.

Comfortable sofas and contemporary artwork create a relaxing feel in the sitting room, with a round table which seats 6, perfect for afternoon tea, playing games or even (dare we say it?) doing some work if you need to. Maybe you will write that novel here! It’s certainly an inspirational setting. Window seats dotted around the house add to its cosy ambience and atmosphere.

Next to the kitchen is a charming bedroom with ensuite shower room and its own door opening onto the courtyard.  It’s perfect for anyone who likes a little ‘me’ time, such as an older relative, teenager or even an au pair.

There are 5 bedrooms in this idyllically quiet sanctuary. 2 bedrooms have king-sized beds, 2 have double beds, and one has 2 singles ideal for children. The main king-sized bedroom is adjoined by an ensuite with a bath, while the ground floor bedroom also has an ensuite shower room. There is a family bathroom with bath and shower over, and a shower room on the top floor for use by the lovely large bedroom nestled under exposed beams.

The house is just a few miles from many of the south coast’s most beautiful beaches at Hemmick, Vault, Caerhays and Carne/Pendower. The picturesque fishing village of Mevagissey and the historic harbour at Charlestown are a 10-minute drive from the house. Meanwhile, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are virtually on the doorstep, and the cathedral city of Truro, is around 20 minutes drive away.

Just a couple of miles from the house is Mevagissey, a quintessential Cornish fishing village.  Holidaymakers can enjoy traditional fish and chips on the harbourside, whilst watching the boats bob up and down on the water.  Crabbing is a popular activity for children and big kids too, on the harbour walls.

Close by beaches can be found at Pentewan, Portmellon and Gorran Haven and all have a lovely family vibe, perfect for days out with great places to eat too.

The house is situated at the head of The Roseland Peninsula which leads down to St Mawes, passing Portloe and Pendower en route where there are endless stunning coastal walks.

You can also take the scenic King Harry car and passenger ferry from St Just in Roseland over to the outskirts of Truro or the passenger ferry from St Mawes to Falmouth, a vibrant student town home to the National Maritime Museum.  Fowey, famous for its Du Maurier festival is 10 miles east and the historic harbour of Charlestown with its tall ships, familiar from Poldark, is a short drive from the house.

The house is just 25 minutes from the more rugged North coast, home to surfers and windsurfers at places like Newquay, Watergate Bay, Rock, Perranporth and Porthtowan. Further West lies Penzance and those last few miles to Lands End – Porthcurno, Sennen Cove, Kynance Cove and St Ives with its world famous Tate Gallery.  Details of which will all be found at the house.

The White family had a fabulous stay at Broom Park. The house itself is wonderful: large, full of character, furnished and finished with impeccable taste. Garden is big, sun-filled, pristine and irresistible for the kids while the sun shone. The location is ideal if you're keen to explore different spots around the county and coastline. We drove as far as Land's End and easily to Marazion, St Ives, Newquay, Padstow, the Camel Trail, and of course all the local towns and beaches on the Roseland peninsula. I can't recommend the house, hosts and location highly enough.

Wonderful house in perfect location
The White Family — August 2021

House and gardens are spacious, peaceful and full of character. House was well equipped and clean. Owners very friendly and helpful. Great location with easy access to both north and south coast. High recommend.

Fantastic week

We had a brilliant time at Broom Park, it's a beautiful house with lovely gardens in a perfect location to explore the local area. The house had plenty of space for our group and is very nicely decorated. We really enjoyed cooking in the well equipped kitchen and outside on the BBQ. The terraced area outside was great for alfresco dining in the evenings.

A beautiful house
Alex — June 2021

The house is everything we hoped for - tastefully decorated with lots of character, comfortable and cosy and more than enough space for the family (and in-laws). Loved the views and the sound of the sheep and birds every morning. Our kids enjoyed playing on the big lawn and roaming around the grounds. Great hosts and highly recommended all round.

Lots of character
David — June 2021

Perfect for families and/or a group of friends who are looking for a break away in the countryside. I’d very happily recommend it to anyone. It’s also a fantastic location for exploring Cornwall.
