Cornwall is still one of the UK’s more rural counties, so it pays to plan ahead if you’re visiting with an electric vehicle. The good news is that charging provision has improved a lot in recent years, with Cornwall Council’s Drive EV2 project adding 226 new charging points across 42 council car park locations. Cornwall Council recommends using Zapmap to check live locations and availability before you travel.
Nationally, the public charging network has grown well beyond the figures in your current copy. Zapmap says that at the end of February 2026 there were 118,321 public EV chargers across 45,561 locations in the UK. Zapmap also says there are now over 1.88 million fully electric cars on UK roads.
In Cornwall you’ll find a mix of slow, fast, rapid and ultra-rapid charging, from council car parks and supermarkets to service stations and dedicated en-route hubs. For convenience, accommodation with on-site charging is still the easiest option, but there are now plenty of public options across the county too. Tesla drivers also have high-power Supercharger sites in Cornwall, including hubs at Penhale/Kingsley Village and Camborne/Redruth, each with eight stalls up to 250kW.
Charging options in Cornwall include slow (3–6kW), fast (7–22kW), rapid (43–50kW), and ultra-rapid (100kW+). At Cornwall Council car parks, 7kW fast chargers are most common, typically requiring 4–6 hours for a full charge. Rapid chargers can replenish 80% of an EV’s battery in about 30 minutes, while ultra-rapid chargers can do so in as little as 10–20 minutes, depending on the vehicle.
Tesla Superchargers, known for their high-speed charging capabilities, are available in Cornwall. Notably, a V4 Supercharger station with eight stalls is located in Cornwall, offering up to 325kW charging speeds.
