Trevone Bay Beach, near Padstow

A trip to Padstow’s closest Blue Flag beach (approximately two miles) is always worthwhile. The main beach is more of a sandy inlet that’s deeper than it is wide and to either side there’s  plenty of rock pools to be explored. Beach Overview

A short hop from Padstow, Trevone Bay is a beautiful, west‑facing arc of golden sand edged by low cliffs and pockets of rockpools. On a calm day it’s the quintessential family beach: a gently shelving shoreline for paddling, broad firm sands at lower tides, and sunsets that seem to linger over Stepper Point. When the swell arrives, the bay takes on a wilder energy and the Atlantic reminds you why this stretch of coast is so loved by surfers and sea‑watchers alike.

Lifeguards & Safety

Trevone is RNLI‑lifeguarded in season. Look for the red‑and‑yellow flags and keep bathing within the marked area. Conditions can switch quickly with tide and swell; rips and a steeper shore are possible near high water, so supervise children closely, avoid inflatables in offshore winds and always follow advice from the lifeguards on duty.

Surf & Watersports

When there’s a pulse of Atlantic swell, Trevone can light up with peaky beach‑break waves. Intermediates will enjoy clean, mid‑tide banks; novices are better on smaller days or with a lesson nearby. Bodyboarders often find punchy sections across the central banks on a pushing tide. SUP and kayaking are best reserved for calmer conditions — launch well away from the flagged swim zone and give the headlands a respectful berth.

Tide tips: At low tide the sands spread wide and the rocky edges open up for exploring; by mid tide you’ll often find the best balance of wave shape and paddle‑out; at high tide the beach narrows and shorebreak can be heavy — better for watching than wading. Whatever your craft, check kit and conditions, and keep clear of rocks and rips.

Dog Rules

There’s a seasonal dog restriction at Trevone (dogs are not permitted between May 15 to September 30, 10- 6pm). Outside the restricted summer hours, dogs are welcome — please keep them under close control and clean up after them.

Facilities & Accessibility

Everything you need is close to hand. Public toilets sit by the beach, there’s paidparking beside the sand and at the opposite end of the bay, and seasonal showers/hoses help with sandy toes. Access to the beach is straightforward via short, sloping paths from the car parks. On the seafront you’ll also find the Trevone Beach Stores & Café with a handy surf‑hire outpost for boards and wetsuits.

Coast path & nearby walks

Trevone makes a superb base for coast‑path wanders. Head north towards Stepper Point the South West Coast Path rolls past coves and day‑mark views before dropping into Padstow — a classic out‑and‑back or circular via the estuary. Southbound it’s an easy, scenic hop to Harlyn Bay, with longer options on to Treyarnon and Constantine for those chasing big‑sky Atlantic vistas.
