The Old Coastguard, Mousehole

Date Posted: 24 Jun 2020

The Old Coastguard is a seaside hotel in the fishing village of Mousehole. Alas, it had a fire in summer 2019, but has been revamped for the new season, providing a bright new setting to reflect its location. That location is surely one of the best in the county, though poet Dylan Thomas described it as the loveliest in England.

The menu is traditional brasserie with plenty of fish and seafood, as you’d expect, but also Cornish beef, poultry and game, along with cheeses from local dairies. The food is simple but classic, relying foremost on the flavoursome local ingredients.

Dogs are very welcome in the bar or the Sun Deck. Mention your dog when booking so you can be allocated a table with plenty of space for your dog to lie next to you while you dine. Seasonal classic are cooked with flair by the chef.

Work up an appetite on a coastal walk to blow away the cobwebs with your canine companion, or eat first, exercise later, as this place is very handy for the South West Coast Path.
