Around five miles of south of Padstow, Porthcothan Bay is a large sandy beach which is popular with families and surfers alike. Perfectly set up for a day at the beach, lifeguards are on patrol from May until the end of September.
Porthcothan’s natural beauty has not gone unnoticed, with the beach and the clifftop fields being used for the filming of BBC’s popular drama series Poldark. A long narrow beach, at low tide Porthcothan Bay extends out to offer access to secret beaches, coves, rock pools, lagoons and caves.
Dog lovers will be pleased to hear that dogs are allowed to enjoy Porthcothan Bay all-year round, and there’s also parking, Porthcothan Bay Stores which offers a takeaway service, and toilet facilities close by.
Here you'll find local tips on making the most out of your visit... from where to eat and drink to checking out attractions that are close by.
