For a safe, sandy, family beach that is always happy to see your dog, Long Rock is a favourable option.
The beach is found halfway between Penzance and Marazion, so is accessible from the town. It sweeps around magnificent Mount’s Bay, where the dog-friendly area is at the Penzance end.
Dogs are allowed all year round in the area between Long Rock level crossing to Penzance harbour but beyond that, at the Marazion end, be warned, there are seasonal dog bans in place. However, you can walk them on the adjacent path as you get closer to St Michael’s Mount, and you get a wonderful view of the Mount from right along that stretch of beach.
It is not the prettiest beach, but the sea is clean and the water is very safe for you and your dog. Popular with locals, it is not really a sunbathing beach, a mix of sand, pebble and rock. Sea defences were improved here in 2019 to safeguard the area from winter storm waves.
The car park is a little hidden but well worth finding as, at the time of writing, it charges only £1 for 24 hours, a price almost unheard of in Cornwall. The area adjacent to the car park is dog-friendly, too.
The Great Western Railway passes by, for train enthusiasts.
