Carbis Bay sits just a mile from St Ives and is famed for its soft golden sand and calm, sheltered waters. Nestled within a gently curving bay and backed by lush greenery, it’s a favourite for families and swimmers thanks to its protection from large Atlantic swells.
While its peaceful nature means you won’t find big surf here, Carbis Bay is perfect for paddleboarding, kayaking, and safe sea swims. RNLI lifeguards patrol during the summer season, making it even more reassuring for parents. Dogs are not permitted on the beach from mid‑May to the end of September, but the South West Coast Path offers year‑round dog‑friendly walks with stunning views.

Is my dog allowed on Carbis Bay beach?
Dogs are not permitted on the beach from mid‑May to the end of September, but for dates outside of this dogs are welcome.
When are lifeguards on duty?
RNLI cover runs during the summer holidays, daily 19 July–7 Sept. Outside these dates follow RNLI safety advice and avoid swimming alone.
Where do I park for the quickest beach access?
Porthrepta council-run car park is a five minute walk from Carbis Bay beach, (TR26 2NZ) – pay‑and‑display, card/phone accepted. More options in our parking guide for St Ives.
