Escape Surf School, Newquay
For a specialist open ‘all-year-round’ surf school, especially suitable for those serious about the sport, but also for anyone keen to take to the waves, surfing is king here.
Escape is small but select, with two ex-pro surfers on their coaching team, who teach all abilities from beginners to advanced.
It is the only surf school in Newquay offering ‘outback’, technical and progressive lessons from instructors who are thorough, focused and really know their stuff. It is crazy fun, too, of course, but the aim is on improvement!
Book a one day taster session or a week-long intensive course or something in between. Private to group sessions are available, including for stag and hen groups.
A huge plus is the purpose-built male/female heated changing rooms with hairdryers (and, no way, straighteners!), hot showers and towels, plus plastic-free soap and shampoo bars, because surfers still want to look and feel great afterwards. There is also a funky on-site bar restaurant, Belushi’s, and merchandise you can buy.
